Volunteer Café Supporter

Volunteer Café Supporter (Waterbeach)

Make a BIG difference in a place that truly feels like community.

Role: Café Supporter

Location: Café Eddie's, Cambridge Innovation Park, Waterbeach

Position: Volunteer

Hours: Flexible - weekly or several days a week, depending on your availability

Café opening times: Monday to Friday lunchtimes

We’re looking for friendly, enthusiastic volunteers to join the team at Café Eddie's and support our co-workers as they learn new skills, build confidence and become part of their local community.

This is an exciting opportunity to help us develop a new approach to workplace support creating meaningful opportunities for people with learning disabilities to gain experience in a real café environment, develop their skills and, where possible, progress towards employment.

What you’ll be doing

Your role as a Café Supporter will vary depending on the day, but you can expect to be involved in activities such as:

  • Welcoming people with warmth and respect, supporting an inclusive environment for everyone.
  • Supporting the team - being a friendly and encouraging presence alongside our co-workers.
  • Assisting with café service by helping with basic tasks such as serving customers, preparing food and drinks, and clearing tables.
  • Creating a comfortable atmosphere - whether that’s chatting with visitors, encouraging a relaxed pace, or simply ensuring the space feels inviting.

Hospitality or kitchen experience would be an advantage, but it isn’t essential. What matters most is that you are reliable, patient, positive and enjoy working with people.

Why volunteer with us?

When you give your time helping a small charity, your impact is visible. You’re not just “helping out”- you’re actively shaping the experience and supporting the work we do with care and dignity.

We are an independent charity with over 70 years’ experience delivering high-quality care and support. Our café volunteering is one of the ways we make a difference in the lives of those with learning disabilities and/or Autism.

What we’re looking for

We're looking for people who:

  • are friendly, patient and respectful when engaging with others.
  • have teamwork skills and the ability to follow instructions and procedures.
  • are caring and have the confidence to support others in a supportive environment.
  • are comfortable working in a public-facing setting - busy moments happen, and you’ll help keep things running smoothly.
  • are reliable - whether you can give us one day or several days a week, we're looking for people who can show up on time and let us know if anything changes.

If you’re looking for a volunteering role that feels meaningful, and you enjoy making people’s day a little brighter - we'd love to hear from you!
